More about Climate Action Lab V: Online

Climate Action Lab Programme:

UK farming and land use: how do we address the climate and ecological emergencies while supporting farmers? - Dmitry Yumashev
This talk will draw on a wide body of work that Small World Consulting has carried out across the UK on strategic topics including landscape-level net zero transition, land use change, and sustainable food systems. In all this work, we bring the latest scientific evidence to the contentious and emotive debate around what a truly sustainable farming and land use in the UK should look like, with the aim to help the parties involved make the right decisions for the future.

Panel Discussion: Ideas to Transform Your Food System - Greg Pilley, Tom Herbert & Eric Walters
This panel discussion will explore ways to create a more sustainable food system. Learn from their experiences of setting up food and drink companies with sustainability and social justice at the core. Together, they will stress the need for collaboration between farmers, consumers, and policymakers to drive meaningful change.

Farming as an answer to the nature and climate crisis - Tim Bevan
Hear from Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust's Tim Bevan, Senior Wildlife and Farming Manager about working in partnership with farmers and landowners for nature's recovery.

Agroecology and the role of agricultural education in reimagining food futures - Dr Jonathan M Code
How does education contribute to the reimagining of our food systems and what is the role of the educator in supporting a move toward more resilient and regenerative food systems.

The Historical Context of Natural Conservation Crisis in the UK - Dr Simon Pickering
Over centuries, landscapes and therefore wildlife has changed due to improvements in farming, but also politics and financial pressures. Simon will give an overview of the impacts of various moments in UK history and give examples of where farming and the wild coexist.

How Can We Meet Our Energy Need While Protecting Nature?

How Can We Meet Our Energy Need While Protecting Nature?

25th March 2025

The UK government has set out a mission to achieve a fully decarbonised power system by 2030, with a commitment to double onshore wind, triple solar power and quadruple offshore wind capacity. This will require constructing extensive new renewable energy and grid infrastructure to power businesses and homes, but how can we do this while protecting nature, landscapes, and communities’ right to have a say? How can we make sure that we take communities with us and balance the use of land needed for energy infrastructure with that needed for farming, housing, climate solutions and nature’s recovery. This event is in partnership with the CPRE, The Wildlife Trusts and will be streamed as part of The Wildlife Trust's "Wild LIVE" series.
